What’s included
- Basket display tent cards, numbered 1 to 40. Type the basket name, what’s inside, value, tickets per entry and donor right in the PDF, then print and fold. The big basket number faces the room.
- Ticket container labels, numbered 1 to 60. Big, readable numbers for the cup, bag or box in front of each basket.
- Basket inventory log. Every basket, its donor, its value and its winner, on one sheet.
- Door sales log. Who sold what at the door, so the cash box balances at the end of the night.
- Donor thank-you cards. Printable cards for every business and family that donated a basket.
One room, a lot of baskets, everyone picks their favorites
In a basket raffle, each basket gets its own container. Buyers get a sheet or strip of tickets and drop them into the containers of the baskets they want. One winner is drawn from each container.
The same event goes by a lot of names depending on where you live: tricky tray in New Jersey, Chinese auction in parts of the Northeast and Midwest, basket auction or basket bonanza almost everywhere else. Want the details on the other names? See the tricky tray guide and the Chinese auction guide.
What makes a basket table work
- Number everything. Tent card, container label and inventory log should all carry the same number.
- Say what’s inside, and what it’s worth. Buyers put more tickets in baskets when they can see the value.
- Credit the donor on the card. It’s free advertising for them and makes next year’s ask easier.
- Group baskets by price or theme if you have a lot of them. Kids’ table, date night, gift cards, the big ones.
- Send thank-you cards within a week. Donors who get thanked come back.
Basket raffle FAQ
How many baskets should we have?
For a school or church event, 20 to 60 baskets is common. Fewer, better baskets usually beat lots of thin ones.
Can some baskets cost more tickets than others?
Yes. Premium baskets often take 5 or 10 tickets per entry. Put the ticket cost right on the tent card.
What do we do with the tickets after the drawing?
Keep the winning tickets with the inventory log until every prize is picked up. Toss the rest.
Can people enter a basket raffle online?
Yes. Chance2Win raffle websites let supporters pick their baskets and drop tickets online, and you can set different ticket requirements for each basket.
